6 Must-See Places to see in Toronto

6 Must-See Places to See in Toronto

Toronto is a big city to see during a vacation. Between the historic Old Toronto and the popular Downtown Toronto, there is a lot to see. I have put together a list of the 10 must-see places to visit in Toronto. If you are travelling, or a new immigrant, then these are what you need to see to say "I have seen Toronto". Note that there is not particular order in this list.

6. CN Tower

The CN Tower is one of the most iconic spots in Toronto. Taller than the Space Needle, this 55.3 m tall structure provides a good view of the city and has some good photo opportunities. I recommend coming on a weekday as lines are long on weekends. There is also a dining centre near the top which is a very nice place for lunch for people visiting in the morning.

5. Young-Dundas Square

If you have ever been to New York, then Times Square is a must-see. Not because of what it is, but because of the people. Much like that, Y-D. Square is on this list because it is a place to go to be with people. Accessible via Subway and close to a major shopping Centre (CF Toronto Eaton Centre), this place is famous for the activities and celebrations that happen there. While this is a must-see place, it is not a place to see all the time. I would recommend times when celebrations are happening to fully understand the place.

4. St. Lawrence Market

The St. Lawrence Market is a market unlike any other. Aside from being one of the oldest markets in Toronto, the market itself has a huge variety of foods that welcome in all new cultures. On Saturdays, they hold a farmers market. This is a very good place to have a meal but can get crowded on Saturdays. This is located in Old Town Toronto, so some sightseeing is also available nearby. The St. Lawrence Market is looking to change their hours to better serve Toronto

3. Hockey Hall of fame

Located in Old Town Toronto, the Hockey Hall of Fame is a good place to see hockey legends, look at the history of the game, and even buy a specialty donut. Accessible via Union Station, this building is near the financial district and is one of those places everyone knows of in Toronto. This place is great if you are constrained by public transportation, and don't want to walk too much.

2. Chinatown North

For people who want to explore new cultures, and not just buildings, this place is for you. Unlike most other places, Chinatown North is a collection of stores, restaurants, and entertainment areas all accessible via streetcar. Chinatown North is not too far away from the centre of Toronto, so it is not an issue for people staying downtown, and the amount of activities to do there make it seem like you could spend an entire day just in Chinatown North.

1. Ripley's  Aquarium

Ripley's Aquarium is a spot very close by to the CN Tower. Most people take their time to go to the CN tower and forget to go to the aquarium as there are usually long lines for the tower. However, the amazing. This place is a must-see as this experience is like to Going to the aquarium first is highly recommended as the lines are shorter than the tower and as such, takes less time.

Bonus: Transportation

Transportation is necessary and if a car is out of your budget or are not planning to stay for long, transit is a good option. All of these areas are in Toronto so the TTC transit is a good option. Using a mix of subways, buses, streetcars, and some good old-fashioned walking, you can get anywhere on this list. I would recommend a PRESTO day pass for one or two day trips, or perhaps even buying a PRESTO card if you are planning to stay for a while or want to explore the GTA.
